WHY REINVENT THE TENT PEG?

Beat Wietlisbach - SwissPiranha

The idea for SwissPiranha came up on a tent tour with my family. I noticed that metal tent pegs deformed easily or got damaged – particularly if they hit a rock. Furthermore, they became sharped-edged and endangered my equipment. On top of that, I missed more safety: No matter how well those metal pegs were pushed or driven into a surface; they always stuck out and turned to extremely dangerous tripping traps – both for barefoot people and for children playing. As a specialist in plastics technology and inventor, it was obvious to me that pegs made from high-performance plastic would perform much better. In addition, they may be really friendly for the environment – as aluminium consumes at least 13 times more energy in production and processing. All said and done, the RT150 made of high-performance plastic PiranhaNT was born: super safe, wonderfully light and with a much higher pull-out force than standard tent pegs of the same length. Quickly, the family of SwissPiranha pegs grew, with the RT220 for bigger tents or tipis, and the ultra-light RT90 for smaller tents or tarps. Then to complete the range of lightweight tent pegs for summer use, the mid-sized and lightweight RT120. Getting outside and enjoying the great outdoors is something I really love – even in wintertime. So, I engineered a very lightweight anchor for my snow camping adventures. The SwissPiranha Snow and Sand Anchors convinced the jury with and were awarded with the OutDoor Industry Award in 2015. The 2019’s BlackFisk stakes made from PiranhaREC by 100% recycled plastics represent a major first step towards the future, which with our latest development in 2020, the GreenShark line made of bio-based PiranhaBT plastic, is heading in the only right direction. Ladies and gentlemen, we are proud to inform you: Camping can also be vegan! And of course: 100% Made in Switzerland!
